EDUCATION
Students living in the town of Johnstown are served by the schools of Weld County School District RE-5J and Thompson School District R2-J. Weld County School District RE-5J is comprised of Roosevelt High School, Milliken Middle School, and three elementary schools, Pioneer Ridge, Milliken, and Letford. Serving both Larimer and Weld Counties, this district has been considered one of the fastest growing districts within the state with a current student enrollment of nearly 3,000. This district also includes one charter school, Knowledge Quest Academy Charter School, which provides students in grades K-8 an academic curriculum that balances physical education, music and art.
Thompson School District R2-J is located in Loveland, CO and is recognized as the sixteenth largest district within the state as well as one of the largest employers in the area. The district is made up of six pre-K centers, nineteen elementary schools, five middle schools, five high schools, and one charter school.
For high school graduates and adult learners ready to make the jump into a more collegiate environment, there are a number of colleges around the area that awaits them, including Aims Community College, University of Northern Colorado, Front Range Community College, University of Colorado at Boulder, Regis University, Community College of Aurora and Colorado State University.
ECONOMY AND JOB MARKET
Johnstown and its surrounding communities have a total combined population of approximately 700,000 people, which helps to establish the area as having one of the most educated and plentiful labor forces around. Technology, health care centers, transportation and shipping headquarters make up a good basis of the job opportunities here. The available land provides opportunities for agricultural work and other related industries. Weld County’s economy is primarily supported by the agricultural industry, with the county being the leading producer of sugar beets, cattle, milk, and grain.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Residents are only about a 30 minute drive to the Greeley metro area and all of its recreational, entertainment and cultural amenities. If the golfer in your life is looking to enjoy a few rounds out on the links, then have them head on over to Greeley as the city is home to Highland Hills Golf Course, the Greeley Country Club, and Boomerang Golf Links. Nearby Windsor has the Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club and neighboring Loveland has The Olde Course at Loveland Golf Club, Cattail Creek Golf Course, and the Marianne Butte Golf Course.
If fishing is more of your idea of a great way to spend the day, be sure to check out the Johnstown Reservoir. Another terrific place to go fishing, boating or swimming is at Boyd Lake, home to a variety of species of walleye fish. Boyd Lake State Park also allows visitors to camp in any of the 148 designated camp sites. Other activities include hiking, biking, jet skiing, water skiing, and geocaching.
